Surrounding Attractions

Welgevonden is situated in a region of the Limpopo Province known as Capricorn – so called after the geographical line crossing the province and the northern section of the area. At its centre is Polokwane, one of the nation’s fastest growing cities. The town was founded in the gold rush days of the 1880s and is as interesting as its surroundings, a land that has witnessed Stone Age nomads, Iron Age settlements, European migration, wars and political upheaval. Today it is known for its fascinating historical sites and attractions ranging from San rock artwork to prehistoric sites. Outdoor lovers revel in an untouched rural environment and extensive game and bird life.

Bela Bela (Warmbaths)
Bela-Bela is world-renowned as a holiday and health destination. Here the hot mineral springs bubble out of the earth at about 22,000 litres per hour. The temperature of the water is a pleasant 53° C and is rich in sodium chloride, calcium carbonate and other mineral salts that have healing properties. The Elements Golf Course and the Rhino Museum are just two key attractions.

Mokopane (Potgietersrus)
Just two hours from Gauteng, Makopane is typical bushveld with many acacia trees and aloes at their most beautiful in June and July. The stunning bushveld environment and influences from Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, Afrikaans and English cultures give Mokopane a unique character. On offer are ancient caves, the Big Five, San drawings, curios, bushveld food and drink including the famous mampoer (a potent drink), tropical gardens and traditional dancing.

Thabazimbi
A small town situated in the Limpopo Province, Thabazimbi is known for its amazing views, small-town hospitality, wildlife and premium hunting experiences. Well-known events and festivals in the area include the Kumba Marakele Marathon and Half Marathon, Annual Marula Festival and Polokwane Show.
